Susan Brown
Susan lives and works in Christchurch with her husband Peter and their two daughters. With strong family connections on the Coast, she travels 'home' on a regular basis.
Susan's fascination with silver jewellery began when she took a course in jewellery making at the Silversmiths Guild of Canterbury. Prior to jewellery making, she worked as a software engineer with a degree in Electronic Engineering from Canterbury University. She creates a small range of exclusive jewellery of her own design in her home workshop.
"I love texture and colour, and am working to incorporate both into my jewellery, while still retaining a feeling of balance. Design integrity is important, with every design element there for a reason. Working through to a good design is a process for me, not something that 'just happens'. There is a real sense of satisfaction when the end result conveys something to other people too."
In 2005 Susan's 'Southern Alps Brooch' won the Lapidary Journal (USA) Jewellery Arts Awards, in the Pins/Brooches section.
In 2008 Susan's 'Children's House Brooch' was featured in the annual international PMC Guild "Exceptional Work in Precious Metal Clay 2008" book.
In 2009 Susan's 'Middle Earth Pendant' and 'Citrus Lace Pendant' were both featured in the annual international PMC Guild "Exceptional Work in Precious Metal Clay 2009" book.
